Rites Tuesday for Thelma Robbins

Mrs. J. Glenn (Thelma) Robbins, 75, of 515 N. 9th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1929, died Sunday evening at her home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church.

Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the church conducted the service. Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Survivors are her husband; two sons, David Gooch of Newton and Dennis Gooch of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Patty) Schmidt of Baxter; Three Step-children, Don Robbins and Mrs. Jim (Sandi) Rodgers, both of Newton, and Mrs. William (Marge) Maple of Jeffersonville, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Loyal Gooch in 1967; and an infant son.

Mrs. Robbins was a member of the First United Methodist Church, 4-0 Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Margaret Rebekah Lodge, White Shrine, Newton Chapter 100 of the Order of Eastern Star and the Jasper County Senior Citizens.

The daughter of Edward and Julie Butrum Davenport, she was born July 29, 1904 in Grinnell and was graduated from Grinnell High School in 1922.

She was married June 12, 1975 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 8 Nov 1979.
