Joan A. Van Wyk, age 83 of Monroe, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Comfort House of Pella Hospice. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, April 3 at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Burial will be held at Gifford Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Pella - Comfort House or the Monroe Emergency Unit and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of John Leuty Sr. and Margaret Eveleth (Stone) Prunty, Joan was born on August 11, 1929, in Greeley, Colorado. She graduated from Monroe High School. On October 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to Ralph H. Van Wyk. She was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church, where she served as church treasurer for 34 years. She was a 4H leader for numerous years and also a campfire leader. Joan enjoyed sewing and made Grandma blankets for her family members which will be cherished.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Sharon K. (Dwight) Miller of Fremont, Iowa, James L. (Marla) Van Wyk of Brownwood, Texas, Denise J. Van Wyk of Des Moines, and Janice M. (Tom) Davis of Monroe; eleven grandchildren, Lisa M. (David) Foster of Sully, Lynn M. (Marty) Eby of Spencer, Lori M. Miller of Monroe, Christopher R. (Tira) Brom of Chicago, Andrew D. Van Wyk of Iowa, Sara A. Van Wyk of Iowa, Evan B. (Tracy) Van Wyk of Waukee, Gunnar C., Graham T., Eleigh G., and Emilyn J. Davis of Monroe; and seven great grandchildren, Shelby K. Foster, Cale W. Foster, Piper M. Eby, James A. Brom, Tyler M. Hobbs, Noah B. and Braden H. Van Wyk.
Preceding Joan in death were her parents, husband Ralph, a brother, John L. Prunty, Jr., two sisters, Lorene M. Wheatcraft and Jeannette Prunty; parent's in law, Ben and Irma Nelle Van Wyk and a sister in law, Phyllis L. Frazier.
