Margaret Adkins

Margaret Buchanan Adkins, 87, of 515 S. 3rd Ave. W., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Saturday morning, April 13, at Skiff Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. William A. Calhoun, pastor of the church will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Survivors are a brother, Roy Buchanan of Newton; a niece, Margaret (Mrs. Tom) Atwood of Newton; and two nephews, Thomas Buchanan of Newton and Richard Buchanan of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Glen, Oct. 6, 1984.

Mrs. Adkins, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gates Circle, Jasper County Senior Citizens and the RSVP, had been employed at the Jasper County Clerk of Courts office and at the Maytag Loan and Abstract Co.

The daughter of Thomas Howard and Edith Mae Gates Buchanan, she was born Nov. 8, 1903 in Newton, was graduated from Newton Community High School and attended Iowa State University in Ames.

She was married to H. Glen Adkins April 2, 1927 in Grinnell. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 15 Apr 1991.
