Lyle E. Weldon, 79, of 1230 1st Ave. E., a longtime resident of Newton and the Newton area, died Thursday morning, March 14, at the Newton Health Care Center.

Cremation followed death.

Private family graveside rites will be held at a later date at the Rorabaugh Cemetery.

Reese Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors are a sister, Helen Weldon of Newton and a number of nieces and nephews, including Linda Ehler of Kellogg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, , Lloyd and Conrad, and three sisters, Melba Gildersleeve, Lucille Robins and an infant sister.

Mr. Weldon farmed west of Newton and he and his brother had owned and operated the merchants Transfer Truck Line for a number of years.

The son of Louis M. and Maggie Creese Weldon, he was born March 4, 1912 at Grand River and attended Newton schools.

Mr. Weldon had moved to Newton with his family in 1920, to a farm southwest of Newton in 1949 and returned to Newton in 1988. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 15 Mar 1991.
