Calvin B. walker, 78, of 701 s. 14th Ave. W., died Thursday evening, March 14, at Skiff Medical Center of congestive heart failure.

Cremation followed death.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reese Funeral Chapel.

The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ, and the Rev. David Rex, pastor of the Church of God, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Congregational United Church of Christ or the Jasper County Historical Society will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Lois; a son, James D., of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Julie Anne (Mrs. Rick) Hall of Newton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Irvine of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and two sisters, Muriel Butler of Daytona beach, Fla., and Gladys Jennings of Ormond Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Mr. Walker, a funeral director until retiring in 1973, was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, a former member of the Missouri Valley Lions Club and a longtime member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association.

The son of J. Irvine and Alberta Wahn walker, he was born Aug. 12, 1912 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, was graduated from Newton Community High School in 1931 and was graduated from Hohenschuh-Carpenter College of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, Mo.

He was married to Lois Horn July 6, 1935 in Galena, Ill.

Mr. Walker had owned and operated Walker Funeral Home in Missouri alley from 1954 to 1974. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 15 mar 1991.
