Edith E. Lloyd, 72, of Newton died on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2015, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, June 25, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Edith’s name may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

Edith, the daughter of Theodore B. and Ada Belle (Springer) Curtis, was born on January 31, 1943 in Iowa City. She grew up in Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School. Later she received her B.S. in Business Administration from Upper Iowa University. Edith was united in marriage with Thomas Lloyd on November 25, 1961 in Newton. Edith was a pastor’s wife for many years as Tom served in six different churches. She was also an office manager/administrative assistant for 40 years, retiring in 2004. At the time of her retirement she was working at Iowa Methodist in the Chaplain Department and had previously been at Blank Children’s Hospital. Following her retirement Edith returned to work as a Mutual Teller at Prairie Meadows.

Edith was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Newton, past President of Golden K. Kiwanis, current Lieutenant Governor of Division 10 in Nebraska/Iowa of Kiwanis International, and the Red Hats. She was devoted to her family, serving as guardian for her two nephews for three years. She was also active in her children’s activities and in her church. Edith enjoyed traveling and took many cross-country trips with her daughter, Beth. Those left to honor Edith’s memory are her husband, Rev. Thomas Lloyd of Newton; children, Thomas (Janet) Lloyd II of West Des Moines, Tamara Lloyd of Newton, and Elizabeth Lloyd of San Diego, California; her grandchildren, Dr. Thomas (Dr. Sarah) Lloyd III of West Des Moines, Bryan Lloyd of Des Moines, and Chelsea Luttrell of Columbia, Missouri; her great-grandchildren, Thomas Lloyd IV and John Lloyd; and sister, Leora Albers of Rialto, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, LeRoy Curtis. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 23 Jun 2015.
