Nelpha N. Owens, age 78 of Mingo, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center – Monarch Wing. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 2 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax, with burial following at Union Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Mingo American Legion Auxiliary Unit 534 and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
She was born on December 10, 1933 and grew up in the Jasper County area. On October 31, 1951 she married Ralph Owens and they had celebrated 61 years together. They lived in Ira and Mingo where they raised 3 children. Nelpha worked at Maytag for some years and at the Mingo Locker for 16 years.
Survivors include her husband Ralph; daughter Carol Ann (Charlie) Myers; sons Dennis Owens and Marvin Owens; grandchildren Steve (Jan) Myers, Lisa Myers and Dave Owens; 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a son in infancy.
