MONROE – Funeral services for Wilbur Eugene Christy, 50, a resident of Monroe since 1950, were held today, Feb. 25, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.

The Rev. Jerry McGee, pastor of the Monroe United Methodist Church, conducted services.

Cremation was held.

Mr. Christy died Thursday at the Des Moines General Hospital.

Survivors are his wife; Betty; two daughters, Wanda Thomas of Des Moines and Coleen Kendal of Monroe; two sons, John C. of Knoxville and Jodie of Monroe; and six grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Christine Bognano and Chrystal Christy, both of Campbell, Calif., two half-sisters, Sharon Whitten of Des Moines and Karen Jones of Lineville, and three half-brothers, Jerry Draper of Mystic and Terry and Gary Draper, both of Lineville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a grandson.

Mr. Christy, who resided in West Des Moines before moving to Monroe, retired from Wilson foods in Des Moines.

Later he was a carrier for the Des Moines register and a deliverer of Monroe Congregate Meals.

The son of Wilbur and Dorothy Christy, he was born Sept. 5, 1940 in Des Moines.

He was married to Betty Hanawalt November, 1961 in Colfax. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 25 Feb 1991.
