Sarah A. Rexroat Sparks, 86, formerly of 832 W. 4th St. S., died Monday morning, June 22, at the Newton Health Care Center of pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services
burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home 6:30 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Christian Church may be left at the church or the funeral home.

Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Dorothy Sparks of Newton, a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bob Ellis of Inman, Kan.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Enoch Rexroat of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vern, May 9, 1983, a daughter, Shirley, two brothers, Richard and Leonard Rexroat, four sisters, Mary, Grace, Alice and Helen, and two children in infancy.

Mrs. Sparks, a member of the First Christian Church, was a homemaker and had worked at the Maytag Co. from 1952 to 1958.

The daughter of Kemper and Rachel Benjamin Rexroat, she was born Dec. 16, 1905 in Newton and attended Newton schools.

She was married to Lavern Millard Sparks July 18, 1925 in Des. Moines.
