Laurel R. Van Baale

MONROE – Laurel Ray Van Baale, 79, of Monroe, a former Prairie City-Monroe area farmer and trucking business operator, died Saturday, March 2, at the Knoxville Area County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Thomas M. Bass, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Friends may call at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the church will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret; a son, Donald D. of Monroe; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, a son, Jerry, an infant sister and two brothers.

Mr. Van Baale, a member and elder of the Monroe Presbyterian Church, had been employed by the city of Monroe at the time of his retirement.

The son of Engle and Ella Kaldenberg Van Baale, he was born Feb. 24, 1912 in Monroe.

He was married to Margaret Snook Feb. 16, 1935 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Mon 4 Mar 1991.
