Jack Herman, 67, of 1711 S. 4th Ave. E. died this morning, May 13, at his home.

Jack V. Herman

Funeral services for Jack V. Herman, 67, of 1711 S. 4th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1982, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. James Black, pastor of the Foursquare Church, and the Rev. Harvey Ross, pastor of the Evangel Chapel Foursquare Church in Des Moines, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

He died Monday afternoon at his home of cancer.
Survivors are his wife, Marjorie J.; a son, John A. of Des Moines; a step-son, Larry J. Goode of Chula Vista, Calif.; two step-daughters, Louise (Mrs. David) Rojohn of Newton and Linda (Mrs. Kenneth) Stake of Loudonville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Lillie Perret of San Diego, Calif., Betty Lou Hubbard of west Alexandria, Ohio, and Shelly Simpson of Pickens, S. C.; three brothers, Bob of Norwalk, Ohio, Gary of Dayton, Ohio, and Bill of Springboro, Ohio; and his step-mother, Creta Herman of Dayton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Herman, a member of the Foursquare Church, Moose Lodge and American Legion, was a retired member of the Navy. He had served as a chief gunners mate for more than 20 years.

The son of Loren and Kathryn Bender Herman, he was born Sept. 10, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio, and attended Lorain and vermilion, Ohio, schools.

He was married to Marjorie J. Patterson Feb. 6, 1965 in San Diego, Calif.

Mr. Herman had resided in San Diego prior to moving to Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Tues 14 May 1991.
