Leonard B. White, 93, of 916 W. 7th St. S., a longtime resident of Newton, died Friday, May 10, at Skiff Medical Center of renal failure.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Assembly of God.

The Rev. George Cuff, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Memorials to the First Assembly of God Mission Fund will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Grace I.; a son, Leonard Jr. of Forsyth, Mo.; two daughters, Zelma Allen of Simi, Calif., and Thelma Richardson of Knoxville; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two half-brothers, Charles and Onie Pherigo, both of Newton; a half-sister, Faye Farrow of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gayle and Clyde, and a sister, Wardie Bookout.

Mr. White, a member of the First Assembly of God, had been a tub molder at the Maytag Co. from 1924 to 1943, farmed from 1943 until retiring in 1963 and later worked in Versteegh and Edward’s gas station for many years.

He was born Dec. 1, 1897 in Kingsport, Tenn.

He was married to Grace I. Rowland Sept. 24, 1924 in Kirksville, Mo.

He also had resided in Kellogg and Ira. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 13 May 1991.
