CEDAR RAPIDS – Nelle Boat Wood, 88, of Cedar Rapids, a former resident of Sully and Newton, died Monday, April 15, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wood, who resided in Newton most of her life, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Scott Coulter, pastor of the Newton United Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Thursday and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Newton United Presbyterian Church may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, J. Norman, 160 Brentwood Dr. N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402, and his wife, Evelyn Jesnick wood; a daughter, Patricia (Mrs. Wesley) Wood Brown of Kennewick, Wash.; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Stanley Wood, July 21, 1963, a sister, Hattie, and four brothers, Arthur, John, Harris and Paul Boat.

While a resident of Sully she was active as a pianist and choir member and in other activities of the Sully Community Church.

While a resident of Earlham Mrs. Wood was active in the Earlham Presbyterian Church and while a resident of Newton was active in the Newton United Presbyterian Church.

She was head bookkeeper in the J.C. Penney Store in Newton for 25 years, retiring in 1966.

The daughter of A. C. and Gertrude Wisgerhof Boat, she was born July 8, 1902 in Sully.

She resided in Sully until 1936, resided in Earlham for three years and spent much of the remainder of her life in Newton.

She was married to Stanley Wood in 1924. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Wed 17 Apr 1991.
