KELLOGG – Sherman C. Reichelt, 84, of Rt. 2, Kellogg, died Monday April 22 at his home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kellogg with the Rev. Robert F. Waters officiating. Burial will be in Our Silent City in Kellogg.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell from9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

A memorial fund in his name has been established. Memorials may be sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa, 50112.

He is survived by his sister, Katherine Schaumburg of Kellogg. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife July 9, 1981; and one son, Gerald Dean Reichelt, who was stillborn in 1938.

He was the son of Hugo and Gloria Thon Reichelt, born Aug. 10, 1906 at Langdon, N.D. The family moved to Kellogg in 1909, where he attended the Garfield Country School and graduated from Kellogg High School in 1925.

He attended the University of Illinois, where he played football with the legendary “Red” Grange as a freshman. He also played Semi-pro football for teams in Newton, Kellogg and Grinnell.

He was married to Lillian L. Kimball Aug. 10, 1932, and the couple resided near Kellogg.

He operated Sherm’s Fish Hatchery and was a grain and livestock farmer.

Reichelt was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Kellogg and the Hickory Grove EUB Church in rural Jasper County. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Tues 23 Apr 1991.
