KELLOGG – Grace Lucille Kling Meredith, 77, of Rt. 2, Box 65, Kellogg, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Saturday, April 6, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 8 a.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Newton First United Methodist Church or the Kellogg Historical Society will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, Lowell, of Kellogg; a son, Raymond of Lisbon; three daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Ray) Tininenko of Williston, N.D., Kathryn (Mrs. Bob) Hammig of Denver, Colo., and Martha (Mrs. Sherman) Hayes of Boston, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Also surviving are two brothers, Henry Kling of Mesa, Ariz., and George Kling of Newton; and three sisters, Florence (Mrs. Gordon) Smith of Palos Verdes, Calif.; Mary (Mrs. Bob) Powell of Mason City and Dorothy Pearson of St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Meredith was a member of the Newton First United Methodist Church, the DD Sunday school class and had taught Sunday school classes for more than 50 years, was a member of the Kellogg United Methodist Women, a former member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church and the Pleasant View United Methodist Church, a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau Women’s Club and Barrett Homemakers Club and was a former member of the Bell Choir.

She had taught rural schools in Jasper County.

The daughter of Louis and Bertha Brooks Kling, she was born Jan. 22, 1914 in Jasper County, east of Newton, and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

She was married to Lowell Meredith May 22, 1937 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 8 Apr 1991.
