David Lyle Dyas, 74, of 414 1st St. S., a resident of Newton since Aug. 1, 1953, died Saturday morning, April 6, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace–Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Christian Church or the American Cancer Society will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Grace Louise; four daughters, Patricia Jean Hackett and Deanna Louise (Mrs. Everett) Wood, both of Newton, Nancy Lee (Mrs. James) Barnes and Linda Kay Healy, both of Villa Rica, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

Also surviving is his brother, Robert N. of Roseville, Calif., his mother, Susan Ethel Dyas of Newton, and cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, David H., a sister, Genevieve Lucille Dyas, and a brother, Loren Blaine Dyas.

Mr. Dyas, an automotive mechanic for Chrysler-Plymouth and Dodge dealers until retiring in 1981, was a member of the first Christian Church, Newton Masonic Lodge 59 AF and Am, Machinist Union, National Campers and Hikers and was a charter member and past president of the Tune-Up Society of Iowa.

The son of David Henry and Susan Ethel Jacobson Dyas, he was born Oct. 9, 1916 in Formoso, Kan., and was graduated from Wilsonville (Neb.) High School.

He was married to Grace Louise Mc Call July 18, 1937 in Mc Cook, Neb.

Mr. Dyas, who served in the Army in Italy during World War II, resided in Boone prior to moving to Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 8 Apr 1991.
