Donald “Don” L. Yoakum, 66, of Newton died on Monday, June 8, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 15 at Graham Cemetery in Mingo. Memorials in Don’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Don, the son of Clarence and Elma (Eatwell) Yoakum, was born on November 25, 1948 in Des Moines. He grew up in Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School. Don served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War time.

Don was united in marriage with Dianna Beck on November 12, 1971 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. They made their home in Newton where Don worked in the factory at the Maytag Company, retiring in 2009. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 and the Izaak Walton League.

He enjoyed duck hunting with his grandson, boating, camping, and Elvis Presley. He loved his dog, Axle. Don was a dedicated and loving husband, dad, grandpa, and brother.

Those left to honor Don’s memory are his wife, Dianna Yoakum of Newton; son, Chad (Kiya) Yoakum of Arizona; daughter, Keri Yoakum of Newton; grandchildren, Megan (Rueben) Garcia, Cragar Klingensmith, Zachary Klingensmith, Kaylee Barrett, and Jesse Gelner (Ashley Bishop); his great-granddaughters, Ava Garcia and Linden Gelner; brother, Larry (Bonnie) Yoakum of Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Max Wallace of Colfax and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Wallace. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 8 Jun 2015.
