MRS. BEN JONES, SR. IS DEAD
End Comes Yesterday Afternoon --- Came to This City from Wales

Mrs. Ben Jones, Sr. died at her home here last evening after an illness of one month from pneumonia. Mrs Jones’ condition had not been considered critical until Monday when she suffered a turn for the worse and death came at 5 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.

Since coming here 18 years ago from Monmouthshire, Wales, Mrs. Jones has made her home in Newton. She was an earnest worker in the Presbyterian church and affiliated with the womens organization of the church. She had a wide circle of friends who loved her for her charming English ways and her interests in affairs of the church and community. Mrs. Jones was prominent in work pertaining to the construction of the new Presbyterian Church, in which she took a devoted interest.

She has always given freely of her time to the church. The Jones family is well known in musical circles of the city, all of her children being noted as singers. Mrs. Jones whose maiden name was Miss Elizabeth Willing [Wilding], was born in Monmouthshire, Wales November 18, 1860 and was married there in December 1885 to Ben Jones.

To this union were born three children, Ben J., of Tama, Ia., Mrs. Carl Carey and Mrs. Katherine Peaker of Newton, who with the father survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, with Rev. W. R. Moore in charge. Burial will be made in the Newton Cemetery.
