Oscar Lundeen Dies From Injuries Received In Car Accident

His truck was struck by a car Friday evening

Had Been Unconscious In Des Moines Hospital Since the Accident Funeral Probably Saturday

Oscar Lundeen, of this city, who was so seriously injured in an auto accident last Friday evening near Altoona, passed away Wednesday morning at 4:20 at the general Hospital in Des Moines, never regaining consciousness.

Mr. Lundeen, 20, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lundeen, of Colfax, was taking a load of produce to Des Moines for Sam Jones, and when a short distance west of Altoona met Walter Henry and Miss Margaret Ankele, of Des Moines, and according to witnesses, Mr. Lundeen pulled his truck partially off the paving to avoid hitting the Henry car, but was unable to do so and the crash came head on.

Mr. Lundeen was taken from the wrecked truck unconscious and rushed to the general Hospital in Des Moines, where everything possible was done to save his life. The very best specialists obtainable in Des Moines were secured and they did their best, but to no avail.

Miss Ankele and Mr. Henry who were in the other car were taken to the Lutheran Hospital, where it was found the young lady had a crushed skull and internal injuries. She passed away Sunday morning.

Mr. Henry was bruised somewhat from the accident but nothing serious.

Those who helped pick up Henry reported that the odor of liquor was outstanding, but whether his condition was such that he was not capable of handling his car properly could not be stated. (The next few sentences are torn off of the obituary)
The Dodge couple hit the Jones truck at the front left side, the impact centering right on the cab where Mr. Lundeen was sitting.

X-Ray pictures taken Sunday showed that Mr. Lundeen did not have a fractured skull, as was first thought.

The Jones truck, which was a Chevrolet, almost new, and the Dodge coupe owned by Mr. Henry were both complete wrecks. Those who saw the cars after the wreck claimed that it was difficult to tell even what make of cars they were.

Charles Lundeen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lundeen of this city.
