John M. Wilding Died Suddenly Monday, Oct 6,

John M. Wilding, 78, a resident of this community for over 60 years, died suddenly of a heart condition Monday, October 6th about 12:00 o’clock noon.

Mr. Wilding, in company with is wife, had spent about ten days in Des Moines at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ted Nelson, and the couple were being brought to their home in this city by Mrs. Nelson, when Mr. Wilding became seriously ill near Mitchellville. Mrs. Nelson, upon arriving in Colfax, went directly to the physician’s office, where treatment was started. The Emergency Unit was called and the resuscitator used for about 45 minutes, but to no avail.

The son of Eli and Elizabeth Morgan Wilding, he was born in Bryn Hawr, South Wales, August 30, 1880. After arriving in the United States, the family came to the coal mining area in this section in 1882.

Mr. Wilding was married January 13, 1908 to Nell Hester in this city. They continued to make Colfax their home, and with the exception of a 12 year period spent in California, they have spent their entire life here.

Left to mourn the passing are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Ogden (Iris) Dwight of the Des Moines, Mrs. Theodore (Enid) Nelson of Des Moines, Mrs. Fred (Doris) Stacy of Norwalk, and Mrs. Lloyd (Mary Charlotte) Firman of Colfax, one son William Wilding of Newton, along with eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A brother, A. L. Wilding of Dallas, Texas, also survives.

Possessed with a large number of friends, made throughout his years as a resident of this city, he will be greatly missed by those as well as members of his family.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilding had observed their golden wedding anniversary in January of 1958. He was a retired miner and employee of the Maytag Company in Newton.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Baptist church in this city Thursday afternoon at 2:00 with Rev. Chas Reed, pastor of the church officiating.

Music will be furnished by Mrs. LaVerne Woods, soloist with Mrs. Frank B. Evans, accompanist.

Bearers are Edwin Jones, Robert Gregg, Richard Evans, Tom Hughes. Clarence Riley, and C. L. Graham.

Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
