Newton Woman Dies

Mrs. Nettie Livingston Succumbs At Age Of 84; Services Monday

Mrs. Nettie Livingston 84, died at the Skiff memorial Hospital early this morning after a 12 day illness from the infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Livingston was born in Jasper County, Aug. 18, 1861 and had spent her entire life in this vicinity with the exception of a trip made in the early 60’s by covered wagon to the state of Oregon where she accompanied her parents and where they visited relatives for two years.

The deceased and her husband Ira N. Livingston moved from their farm east of Newton to the home at 217 W. Second Street South, about 26 years ago. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church and the Missionary society of that church. During her younger days she was active in the Buena Vista Grange.

Mrs. Livingston was preceded in death by her husband in 1938, a son Frank, in 1932 and a daughter Katie in 1896. Survivors are: a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Welle, and Miss Elsie Livingston who made her home with her mother and a son, Ray C. Livingston, also a granddaughter, Ardelle Welle all of Newton.

Funeral services will be held from the Murdoch Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Rev. B. H. Finch of Killduff will officiate.

Interment will be held in Newton Union Cemetery. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Sat 1 June 1946.
