Max Caldwell, 72, passed from this life on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born September 5, 1937 to Walter Dwight and Harriet Garneta Caldwell in Des Moines.

Max graduated from Shattuck Military Academy, Faribault, Minnesota in 1955 and Iowa State College in 1959. He served in the Army Signal Corps from 1959 to 1961.

Max married Mary Nell Duncan on August 17, 1958 in Chico, California. They were blessed with three children and four grandchildren.

Max spent his life in central Iowa as a farmer, a flight instructor, a factory maintenance supervisor, an international sales rep for grain handling equipment, and a customer service representative for a trucking company. He was happiest on his farm working with his horses and herding dogs.

Surviving Max are his wife Mary Nell; their three children, William (Elizabeth) Caldwell of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ken Caldwell of La Crosse, IN, and Glenda (Don) Mathes of Cherokee, IA; his four grandchildren, Breanna, Jesse, and Kate Mathes of Cherokee, IA, and Christopher Caldwell of Cedar Rapids, IA, his brother Walter (Marcia) Caldwell of Keokuk, IA, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Center Chapel Methodist Church, 808 Highway 92 West, Indianola, IA. Visitation will precede the service at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City, IA.
