Funeral services for Mrs. Charles H. (Ethel Matilda) Holderness, 73, of 422 E. 4th St. S., a resident of Newton for approximately 50 years, were held this morning, May 28, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.

She died early Friday morning, May 24, at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Survivors are a son, Charles Holderness of Independence, Mo.; a grandson; a granddaughter; a sister, Margaret Shank of Kellogg; and three brothers, Edward Hauersperger of Kellogg, Lloyd Hauersperger of Gilman and Sylvester Hauersperger of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles, two brothers, Floyd of Kellogg and Henry of Grinnell, and a sister, Anna Brown of Kellogg.

Mrs. Holderness was a member of the Pythian Sisters Newton Temple 77, past Chiefs Association, Pocahontas Sequoia, State Guard of the Forest (Pocahontas) and the Veterans of Foreign wars Auxiliary.

The daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Kreigel Hauersperger, she was born Jan. 19, 1912 in Seymour, Ind.

She was married June 5, 1935 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 3 June 1985.
