Mrs. Agnes McLaren, Early Pioneer Died in West

Cousin of Mrs. F. J. Garwood and Mrs. Milo Smith, Died Feb. 21st at Seattle, Washington at the home of her son, Atty. Wm. G. McLaren.

Mrs. McLaren will be remembered here
(next line is missing) of the community, as the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Wm. Gardner who came to Jasper County in 1868 from Ontario, Canada and located on a farm one mile west of Greencastle on what was known then as the Geo. Baker farm.

Robert McLaren, a friend of the Gardner family in Canada later came to Jasper County and he and Agnes Gardner were married here in 1874. They continued to reside in Jasper County until 1893 at which time they moved to the northwestern part of the state, near Galva, Ida County.

They continued to reside there until 1902 when they sold out and moved to Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, where they resided 2 years and then moved to the state of Washington where they have since resided. Mr. McLaren died in 1918. Since that time Mrs. McLaren has made her home with her son Atty. Wm. G. McLaren at Seattle, Wash.

Mrs. McLaren was a cousin of Mrs. Foster J. Garwood and Mrs. Milo Smith north of Colfax and a sister of Mrs. E. L. Duncan, formerly of Colfax, but now in the Philippines Islands with her daughter.

Besides the above relatives she is survived by two sons, Wm. G. and John B. McLaren of Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services were held Feb. 23rd at Seattle, with burial at Puyallup, Washington, her former home. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 4 Mar 1937.
