Ronald D. Allan

Ronald D. Allan, 60, of rural Bovey, Minnesota, a former Baxter resident, died Sunday, October 21, 2001, in his home.

He was born September 5, 1941, to Archibald and Martha (Hall) Allan in Baxter, where he graduated from high school in 1960. He enlisted in the Army in 1960, and also was united in marriage to Marietta Lilgreen on November 4, 1960, in Salinas, California. While in the service, he was a rifle coach at the Colorado School of Mines and a ROTC instructor. He was a veteran of Vietnam War, and also served in Korea, retiring as a master sergeant in 1980. In 1981, he became a maintenance supervisor in Leisure Hills Care Center, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, retiring in 1999.

He was instrumental in organizing Wildwood Township, serving on the board. He also served on the Itasca County Township Association. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee. He was a member of the Minnesota Emu Growers Alliance and American Emu Association, where he was a former board member.

He is survived by his wife, Marietta: daughters Shelly (Rick) Espeland of Des Moines, and Kay (Harlan) Berg of Ogilvie, Minnesota; sons Ty (Denise) and Michael (Corrine) Allan, both of Hibbing, Minnesota; a sister, Patricia (Kenn) Fideldy of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; his mother, Martha (Hall-Allan Schack) of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and 13 grandchildren.

Iowa area relatives still surviving him are James Allan, Bessie Flora, Earl Allan, Robert Allan, Don Allan, Joann Kielly, Margaret Gullett, and Joyce Ohrtman.

Funeral services were held October 24, 2001 at the Community Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids, Minnesota with the Rev. Peter Nord officiating. Burial with full military honors was at Harris Cemetery, Harris Township rural Grand Rapids, Minnesota. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 13 Dec 2001.
