Military Funeral Conducted by Colfax American Legion
Arvil Lee, World War Veteran of this city passed away Saturday evening at his home following several years (rest of sentence is missing).
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Colfax Christian Church with Rev. Russell G. Nye officiating. Full military services were accorded him by the Colfax American Legion.
Arvil lee was born in Shannontown, Illinois, March 13, 1893. He died at his home in Colfax, Iowa, September 19, 1936. Age: 43 years, 6 months, 7 days.
On February 25th, 1918, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving with Battery A, 341st Field Artillery, 89th Division. He was honorably discharged June 6, 1919.
During service overseas, at the time of the offensive on the Western Front near Envizon in 1918, he was severely wounded by shrapnel and gassed. He never completely recovered from the effects of these wounds and the past eighteen years have been spent in a very heroic, yet losing battle to regain physical strength. Skillful treatment in the Veterans Hospital which was located in Colfax, and also in those in Fort Collins, Colorado, Hines, Illinois, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Des Moines, Iowa, was to no avail, and he answered the last final roll call.
In Prairie City Iowa, on April 21, 1923, he was united in marriage to Miss Fay Barton, who with one sister, Mrs. Samuel Myrant of Poplar Bluffs, (rest of sentence is missing.) ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 24 Sept 1936.
