Alerta S. Holmes, 89, of Prairie City died of a respiratory ailment Wednesday at Iowa Luther Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Prairie City United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Waveland Cemetery.

Mrs. Homes was born in Leon and had lived in Prairie City for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of PEO.

Surviving are two sons, Stephen and Mike, both of Prairie City; a brother, Don Scott of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call after noon today at Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City, where the family will be present from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Prairie City Historical Society. ~ The Des Moines Register Sun 26 Dec 1999.
