Henry Bollhoefer of Baxter Killed By Auto

Was Walking On Highway When Struck By Fred Hough Car of Newton

Henry Bollhoefer, of Baxter, was instantly killed Monday evening when he was struck by an auto driven by Fred w. hough, of Newton.

Mr. Bollhoefer, who was 72 years of age, was walking on the highway near Baxter when Mr. Hough approached with his car. When Mr. Hough honked his horn Mr. Bollhoefer became confused and jumped in front of the auto. He nick was broken by the impact.

An inquest was held Tuesday by Coroner Jas. J. Engle.

Mr. Hough was accompanied by W. W. Channell of Wapello at the time of the accident.

The accident happened on highway No. 14, about 6 miles southwest of Laurel. The car struck him on the hip, causing him to fall in the path of the auto in such a manner as to break his neck.

The body was taken to Baxter, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon in the Congregational Church. Burial will be in the family lot of the Baxter Cemetery beside Mrs. Bollhoefer, who died approximately five years ago.

Mr. Bollhoefer was a native resident of Jasper County, having been born on a farm near Baxter in 1859. On Oct. 29, 1884, he was united in marriage to Mary Brandt, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by six children, Mrs. Herman Ebert of Newton, Fred Bollhoefer of Laurel, Arthur of Walnut Grove and Erwin, Carl and Elmer of Newton; four sisters, Sophia Slage of Waukon, Mrs. Ettie Rader and Mrs. Fred Brandt of Melbourne and Minnie Osten of Laurel, as well as 15 grandchildren. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 28 Jul 1932.
