Memorial Service At the United Presbyterian Church in Newton Saturday, June 27th, 2015 1:30pm

Izetta Fern Moore, beloved mother, and accomplished gardener, quilter and cook, passed away on Monday, May 25th 2015. Izetta was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the home of her aunt, on March 25, 1923 to Ralph and Nettie Wolfe. After growing up in 3 different states she graduated, as salutatorian, from Colfax, IA High School in 1941.

As a young lady of 21, she was a pleasant voiced, redhaired girl of Scottish and German ancestry. This attribute made her a perfect teacher for one of the many one room schools in Jasper County. The pay was $75 a month. While teaching and living with the Hinshaws north east of Newton she met and then married Roy Moore a local farmer. She and her sister Wanda were wed in a double ceremony, wearing matching dresses and had matching wedding cakes adorning the table.

Izetta’s faith was an inspiring example to her family and all who knew her. She always wore a smile. She volunteered at Skiff Hospital, was secretary of the United Presbyterian Church Circle. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir, although she never thought her voice was good enough. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Amboy Grange and Jasper County Farm Bureau also kept her busy with all the different offices she held. When her children were young she was a dedicated leader in the local 4-H club.

Izetta was a valued clerk at the local hardware store. She could find any part a wary-eyed man needed. Holiday dinners were something the family relished, as Izetta’s hamballs, homegrown green beans and sweet corn were family favorites. On special occasions for dessert came the famous chocolate soufflé' drizzled, or in our case lathered, with a warm buttery – sugary toping that would blend on your palate, melt on your tongue and torture you with pleasure. She was never content to play it safe as she was always trying new recipes, most were keepers.

Izetta and Roy reared five children and were blessed with 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

At the age of 92, she left us and went to greet her husband, parents, three brothers and one sister at heaven’s door. She is survived by her younger sister Hazel (Wolfe) Easter, her children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
