Newton Man Overcome by Gas

Lee McCullough of Newton was found dead Thursday evening in the home of his father, George McCullough, where he had gone earlier in the day to get a cot, overcome by gas.

According to reports, the house was being fumigated by Ray Porter, and both of the McCulloughs had been warned against the hydrocyanic gas that was being used and also signs were placed on the house.

It is thought that Mr. McCullough had gone into the gas filled house for a cot, became sick while in the bed room and staggered down the stairs into the kitchen, where he was found dead on the floor by Mr. Porter, Thursday evening, when he went to examine the house. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa Thurs 3 Sept 1931.
