Robert "Bob" Gilmore, 66, of Baxter, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines with his loving family by his side. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Baxter Community Center, in Baxter. Military honors and burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Rural Baxter. Immediately following the graveside services a time for fellowship and refreshments will take place at the Baxter Community Center.

Robert James Gilmore was born to William and Betty Lou (Johnson) Gilmore on May 4, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa. Bob attended and graduated from Saydel High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and assisted our forces with the Vietnam War effort.

Bob married Doris McDaniel and to this union five children were born. Bob moved to Rural Baxter in 1985 and has happily resided at his country home since. He was a Teamster Truck Driver until his retirement in 2002.

Bob married Glenda Henry in Ottumwa, Iowa on February 22, 1997.

He was very active in his retirement and had a great love for spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, trapping, golfing, enjoying nature, motorcycling, NASCAR, the Iowa Hawkeyes, gardening, cooking, serving and entertaining his guest, and working on his farmstead. Those left to cherish Bob's loving memories are his wife of 15 years, Glenda; his mother Betty Lou Gilmore, of Des Moines; his children, Robert (Janet) Gilmore, of Dawson, Patty Gilmore, of Altoona, Melissa (Dean) Troutner, of Dallas Center, John (Cassie) Gilmore, of Perry, and Tracy (Brian) Barongan, of Winterset; Step-children, Shaun Henry, and Darron Henry; 19 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and his sister Cheri Hartzer. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family so they may make donations at a later date in Bob's name.

Fredregill Family Funeral Home in Baxter has been entrusted with the care of Bob and his family. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa Tues 4 Sept 2012.
