Wade F. Cross

BAXTER - Funeral services for Wade F. Cross, 82, of Baxter, will be held Tuesday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter with Dr. David Hottenstein, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 8 a.m. today. Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Cross died of cancer, Saturday, Dec. 20, at his home.

Memorials to the Congregational United Church of Christ or American Cancer Society will be accepted.

The son of Samuel O. and Jennie Stevens Cross, he was born July 3, 1915, in Miner County, Howard, S.D. He graduated from Baxter Community High School.

He married Donna Alice Welch May 21, 1937, in Baxter.

A longtime resident of rural Baxter, he worked as a farmer. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter and Jasper County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Charles Zahurones of Stillman Valley, Ill.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Irma Secor of Fort Dodge, Alice Albright and Mary Jean Farver, both of Newton, and Neva Smith of Long beach, Calif.; a step-sister, Velma Wilson of Newton; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by a son; a daughter; and two sisters. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Daily News, Monday, Dec. 22, 1997
