G. Bruce Meredith, 77, of Newton died on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 308 E. Second ST. N. in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Memorials in Bruce's name, to be used for missions may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Meredith Family on the envelope.

G. Bruce Meredith the son of Marshall and Velve (VanderPol) Meredith, was born on January 23, 1936, in Searsboro, Iowa. He was a graduate of Lynnville High School in Lynnville with the class of 1954.

On Sept. 6, 1968, Bruce was united in marriage with Virginia Lee Versteegh in Newton, Iowa. He was a production worker at the Maytag Company in Newton for 30+ years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Metz Community Church and of the UAW Local 997 Retiree's Union.

Bruce enjoyed photography, growing roses and giving them to family and friends, couponing, and he liked old hymns and southern gospel music. He was also a jokester, who enjoyed making people smile.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Newton; son, Kevin (Julie) Meredith of Arlington, Virginia; his sister, Irma (Dale) Jansen of Pella; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Meredith of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Velva (VanderPol) Meredith; son, Chad in 2010; brother, Ervin; and sister, Lois Witzky. ~ Probably Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, Tuesday, April 30, 2013
