Funeral services for Bert M. Cranston, 77, of Rt. 1, Newton, who has been staying at 6726 Northwest 52nd Court, Johnston, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today, Dec. 27.

He died early Wednesday morning Dec. 26, at the Charter Community Hospital in Des Moines.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Dorritt; two sons, Melvin of Fayetteville, Ark., and Edward of Davenport; a daughter, Mrs. Reggie (Sherry) Grimes of Johnston; seven grandchildren; a brother, William of Dysart; and two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Ocie) Hannawalt of Hollister, Mo., and Mrs. David (Olene) Longaker of Montezuma.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1918, a sister, Mae, in 1968 and a sister in infancy.

Mr. Cranston was a charter member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and was a member of the First United Church of Christ, South, formerly Wittemberg Church.

Mr. Cranston was a farmer and dairyman.

The son of William and Iva De Wald Cranston, he was born Oct. 21, 1907 in Lenore, Okla.

He was married to Dorritt Shaw Feb. 28, 19 35 in Oskaloosa. ~ Probably Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, December 27, 1984.
