Ray Peterson Rites Held Monday, Jan. 14

Funeral services for Ray B. Peterson, 89, longtime Colfax resident, were held Monday, Jan. 14, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Eldon Nolte, pastor of the Colfax United Methodist Church, conducted the services. Burial was in McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.

Organist was Eleanor Howell.

Casket bearers were David Peterson, William Peterson, Donald Hiatt, Edward Peterson, Howard Smith, and James Pease.

Graveside military rites were conducted by Jones-Willis Post of the American Legion of Colfax.

Memorial contributions to the Colfax United Methodist Church will be accepted.

He died Friday, Jan. 11, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville.

Survivors are a son, James of Altoona; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Mabel) Barrett of Des Moines and Mrs. Worth (Zola) Hiatt of Colfax; four grandchildren and a great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Anna, in 1970, second wife, Blanche in 1978, a brother and a sister.

Mr. Peterson was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge and American Legion.

An Army veteran of World War I, Mr. Peterson had been a farmer and livestock trucker.

The son of Noah and Barbara Ann Gummer Peterson, he was born Jan. 17, 1895 in Schuyler, Neb.

He was married to Ann Genevieve Smith Dec. 2, 1924 in West Des Moines and to Blanche Morgan Sept. 27, 1974 in Colfax. ~ a Jasper Co., Iowa newspaper, January 17, 1985
