Obituary

Eliza Griffis was born in Cheshire, England, on the 27th day of Dec. 1834, and died at the home of her son-in-law Saturday, Nov. 12, 1904 and at the time of her death was in the seventieth year of her age. On Jan. 1st 1860, she was married to Levi Rowley, to whom she bore fourteen children, seven of whom preceded her to the spirit world.

Twenty-two years ago the family came from the father land and settled in Iowa. Prior to ten years ago the family lived in Des Moines since which time the mother has made her home with her daughter, Mr. Richard Williams north of Colfax where she was well and favorably known to a large circle of neighbors and friends who rise up and say a good and kind neighbor, as well as a devoted mother, has gone from us.

The funeral service was held in the Methodist Episcopal Church on Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by the pastor Rev. E. H. Fleisher. The interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Early in life Mrs. Rowley was converted and joined the Primitive Methodist Church in England and while her pathway through life lay along rugged steps and over a storm tossed sea yet she never lost sight altogether of the captain of her salvation. Her last hours were peaceful and serene as a summer evening. She sleeps well. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly the Colfax Clipper or Newton Daily News.
