"AUNT ROSA" EVANS
TAKEN BY DEATH SUN.
Death Takes Second Pioneer Resident From Plummer Grove Vicinity.

Mrs. Rosa Evans, 74, affectionately known in this vicinity as "Aunt Rosa," passed away Sunday night, a victim of pneumonia. This was the third attack in as many winters, and having weathered the other two, relatives and friends hoped she would again be able to fight off the ravages of the disease and recover her health.

"Aunt Rosa" was a true pioneer in spirit, and though it has been difficult the past two years, owing to her failing strength, she had ever been cheerful and able to see the brighter side of life. There are few people who enjoyed living as much as Mrs. Evans, and she was never happier than when she was planning a surprise party for someone, or making arrangements to entertain her friends in her home. She is going to be missed a great deal in the Plummer Grove vicinity, where a gathering of any kind was not quite complete unless Aunt Rosa was there to share in it.

Rosa Moll, daughter of Nathan and Rosanna Moll, was born near Quakertown, Penn., on December 13, 1860, and came to Iowa with her parents in 1869 and located on her present farm home in 1871.

On February 15, 1881, she was united in marriage to James M. Evans, who preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1897.

She is survived by one adopted son, Harry M. Evans, of Boston, Mass. She is also survived by her nephew, Fred Moll, who has made his home with her since January 7, 1897, assisting in the management of the farm and has cared for Aunt Rosa as faithfully and tenderly as an own son during all these years.

She passed away most peacefully at 8:25 p. m. on Sunday, January 20, 1935, at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 7 days, surrounded by loving friends and neighbors.

She was baptized into the Presbyterian church in Pennsylvania many years ago; was a member of Spring City Rebekah Lodge No. 208 of Colfax, also was an active member of the Farmer's Evening Club and Ladies Social Club of Poweshiek township. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Thursday January 24, 1935
