Bertie, 16-year-old son of J. H. Grant and wife, of this place, died at the family residence at 1 a.m., last Wednesday, after a year’s suffering with consumption. The funeral was from the residence yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev’ds Shearer and Knight, and the remains were interred at Oak Hill.

A large concourse of friends attended the obsequies which were of an unusually sad and impressive character.

The dead boy was a favorite at home and among his schoolmates-a bright, manly boy, with a craving for knowledge unusually in one of his years, and the love lavished upon him by his parents, brother and sister was daily repaid from the limitless store in his generous heart.

The grief of the bereaved family is shared by all who knew their loved and lost Bertie. Colfax, Iowa paper, 16 Mar 1892.
