Rites Held January 23 For Ivagene Hankens

Ivagene Hankens, 82, passed away Wednesday, January 20th, in the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee following a brief illness.

Memorial services were held Saturday, January 23, at 2 p.m. from St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Sushil Joseph and the Rev. Henrietta Klarenbeek officiated. Private committal and burial were at Oak Hill Cemetery Saturday morning.

She was born April 28, 1910 at Baxter to Warren and Elizabeth McKenzie Dodd. She was a member of the 1928 graduating class of Baxter Community High School. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in English and taught in the Cherokee School system for five years.

She married Don R. Hankens in 1937 at Des Moines. She was a longtime Cherokee resident. She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors are her husband, Don R. Hankens; two sons, Dan Hankens and Steve Hankens, both of Cherokee; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Garberding of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; and seven grandchildren. ~ Jasper County Tribune, Colfax Iowa, Thursday, January 21, 1993.
