Eileen "Totesie" Born
August 22, 1944 - February 24, 2015

Eileen Born, 70, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines following complications after heart surgery.

A Funeral Mass for Eileen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames followed by a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Prayer.

Eileen Angela "Totesie" Born was born at the San Diego Naval Base on August 22, 1944 to Dr. Eugene and Orpha (Milligan) Walsh. After the war, the family returned to Ames, where she grew up and received her education in Ames, first attending Saint Cecilia's School, and then Ames High.

Following her high school graduation Totesie enrolled at the University of Iowa and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Totesie taught Head Start in Newton and Library Science at Iowa State University She later took a position in 1983 at the Ames Public Library retiring in 2007.

Totesie was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching Iowa State Basketball. She also had a passion for traveling and took trips nearly annually to California to visit her sister in San Diego during the winter and to Indianapolis for 4th of July family reunions.

Totesie volunteered at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church, Raising Readers, and Mary Greeley Medical Center and always looked forward to her monthly gathering with the local library retirees group. Most of all, Totesie treasured her time spent with her children, granddaughters, and family who all held a special place in her heart.

Totesie will be deeply missed by her children, Kirstin Born of Ames and Adam (Heather Tesdahl) Born of Urbandale; granddaughters, Brynna Bargfield and Emma Born; siblings, Dr. Stephen J. (Dr. Kristin Razzeca) Walsh, Mary Neitge, Marjorie (Dr. Steve) Curtis, and Bill (Rita) Walsh; eight nieces and nephews; and a multitude of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
