Newton Woman Dies at Home in This City at 4:30 This Morning – Burial will be Tuesday
Mrs. Sam Johnson died at her home on Eighth Avenue Northeast at 4:30 o’clock this morning.
Mrs. Johnson was born near Luray, Iowa, May 8, 1900. She was married September 18, 1918 to Mr. Johnson at Marshalltown. Immediately after their wedding they came to Newton where they have lived ever since.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bonawitz, four sisters, Mrs. Harvey Longman, Danville, Iowa; Mrs. Maude Tedemeier, Marshalltown; Mrs. Bessie Maloney, Haverhill; and Mrs. Anna Melberg, Luray; also by one brother, Charles Bonawitz, of Haverhill.
Burial will be made in Maple Grove cemetery (Melbourne, IA) at 1 o’clock Tuesday, the funeral party leaving here about 9 o’clock Tuesday morning.
Child birth and influenza are assigned as the cause of Mrs. Johnson’s death. She has been ill about ten days. The baby, stillborn, was born Sunday afternoon, and this with the influenza is responsible for her death.
NOTE: Pearl H. Johnson was found on the same stone with Sam B. Johnson (1895-1922) and Henry (1920-1920) at Restland Cemetery in Baxter, Iowa.)
