Conduct Parish Funeral Rites At Cedar Rapids
KILLDUFF – Funeral services for Merle Andreas Parish, 37, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, were held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 24, at 2:00 o’clock at the Turner Chapel funeral home at Cedar Rapids.
Dr. Charles J. Bready, pastor of the Methodist church in Cedar Rapids officiated, with the members of the Elk lodge in charge of the services. Interment was in the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery.
Merle Andreas Parish, eldest son of the late Homer W. Parish, and Ida Parish of Killduff, was born Feb. 1, 1903, and died in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Feb. 21, 1940, at the age of 37 years and 20 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss June Thompson in Newton, Jan. 23, 1926. To this union one daughter was born, Patricia Ann, 12, of Cedar Rapids.
He was taken into the Killduff Methodist church when a small child and later had his letter transferred to Belle Plaine, where he resided six months, before moving to Cedar Rapids, where he was living at the time of his death.
Merle attended the Killduff public school, and finished his schooling in Newton, where he attended high school, graduating with the class of 1923. Since his graduation he has been connected with the Thompson and Me-Too grocery stores owned by W. A. Drake, of Blairstown, Ia.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, also his mother, Mrs. Homer Parish, and one brother, Alfred of Killduff, Ia., besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
Those attending the funeral from here, besides his mother, and brother and family were: Mr. and Mrs. William Eichner and son Carroll, of Killduff, Mrs. Robert Rohrdanz, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Sparks, of Galesburg, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hotger of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Compton, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Verwers, and Delmer Elscott of Killduff.
From Newton were Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Carnahan, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Holdsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holdsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Kunze, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Woodrow, Mrs. Tom D. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Holdsworth and Mrs. Fred Pettit.
