White, Carrie Augusta – 1849-1940

PRAIRIE CITY – Carrie Augusta White was born Jan. 6, 1849. She was the eldest child of Maxon and Lani Austin who at the time of her birth lived in Berlin, N. Y. She moved with her family to Peoria county, Ill., when ten years of age. On July 3, 1870 she was married to James C. White, who preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1935.
They made their home in Dana until 1880 when they moved to Denison, Ia., later to Jasper county where she made her home until the time of her death. She came of a long line of relatives on her father’s side and from these families there were soldiers in all of America’s wars. Her great great great grandfather was an officer in the early disturbances of this country and her great grandfather was a captain in the War of 1812. On her mother’s side for back in the records were farmers first in early settlers of New York and Illinois. For three generations some were preachers and of these Mrs. White had knowledge of three.
Surviving relatives are her sons, Henry of Fonda, Ia., and Vernon of Newton, two sisters, Mrs. Martha Hewitt of Gridley, Ill., and Mrs. Mina Blair of Gary, Ind., several grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Walters Funeral home at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. R. T. White, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment was in Waveland cemetery.
