Erickson Rites Are held Sunday
Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Ann Erickson, a Jasper County resident for the last 65 years, who died Friday evening at her home were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Murdoch Funeral home.
The services were conducted by Dr. George C. Williams, pastor of the Congregational church. Burial was made in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
Pallbearers were W. E. Denniston, C. H. Phillips, C. H. McClain, F. G. Bolie, W. M. Mercer and David Allen. Music was furnished by Mrs. Sam Miles and Miss Cecil Taylor, who were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. J. H. Eastman.
Obituary
Susan Ann Denniston was born in Carroll county, Ohio, Oct. 25l 1848 and died March 18, 1927 at the age of 78 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Denniston, coming to Iowa when she was 10 years old. With her mother, sister and brother, they made their home on a farm ten miles from here, living in Jasper county practically her entire life.
She was married to William Erickson, February 22, 1866 and to this union two children was born, Nellie Korff, who died a number of years ago, and Mrs. Forest Patterson of Newton. Mr. Erickson died March 15, 1906. He enlisted at Springfield, Ill., during the rebellion in the year of 1864 at the age of 17 and was honorably discharged. She and her husband made their home in Elk Creek township, southeast of Newton on a farm. Both Mr. and Mrs. Erickson were converted at the Mt. Zion church under the ministry of Rev. Craig, pastor of the church, and were active members in the church until they moved to Newton.
Mrs. Erickson is survived by her daughter Mrs. Forest Patterson of Newton, three brothers, George Denniston and Robert Denniston, both of Newton, and Lawrence Denniston of Des Moines, one granddaughter Miss Ruth Korff, who has made her home with Mrs. Erickson for many years and on grandson Lee Patterson of Newton.
