Aged Farmer Dies
George W. Sheeler, 80-year-old Jasper county retired farmer, died at Skiff Memorial hospital at 1:05 a.m. today as the result of injuries received when his automobile overturned Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Sheeler suffered a crushed chest in the accident, which occurred near Shamrock, a village between Monroe and Prairie City.
Pinned Under Car
He was found pinned beneath his automobile and was brought to the Newton hospital, where he lived until early this morning.
Details of the accident have not been ascertained. However, Coroner, E. A. McMurray said today that a nail found in one of the automobile’s tires leads him to believe Mr. Sheeler lost control of his car when a tire blew out.
He had been living with a son, C. R. Sheeler, near Monroe, and has another son, C. F. Sheeler of Prairie City.
80 Sept. 12
Mr. Sheeler was a member of The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club, having joined June 13 of this year. He observed his eightieth birthday anniversary Sept. 2.
He was one of a family of nine children, one of whom, James L. Sheeler of Montezuma, is now living.
He was married in 1883 to Belle L. Rodger, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Sheeler was a member of the Methodist church. Funeral arrangements had not yet been announced this morning.
