Mrs. Kate Chapman Died in California
Was One Of Early Pioneers Of Colfax And Vicinity
Mrs. Kate Chapman, a former resident of Colfax, passed away Sunday, April 24th, at her present home in Long Beach, Calif. She had been in poor health for a period of nearly a year, but not until the last few weeks had her condition been considered serious.
Mrs. Chapman was 83 years of age at the time of her death. She came to Colfax about 75 years ago and was one of the pioneers helping develop this community. For a number of years she, with her husband, Albert Chapman, who passed away some thirty years ago, lived on the farm in the Bear Grove neighborhood and where they reared their family.
She is survived by her three sons, Ed Chapman of Colfax, Harry and George Chapman of Long Beach, Cal. Two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Stauffer of Colfax and Mrs. Cord Gather of Nebraska, and one brother, Oliver Van Gilder of Carroll, Ia., and grandchildren. One son, Frank Chapman, preceded her in death.
Full particulars as to the funeral arrangements were not received at this time, but it is probable she will be buried in Long Beach, California.
