A. L. Shaffer Dies Suddenly
Death of 74-Year-Old Jasper County Farmer Attributed to Heart Disease
A. L. Shaffer, Newton, R.F.D. 6, died unexpectedly early this afternoon at the home of his son, Bert L. Shaffer, with whom he lived six miles northwest of Newton. He had been suffering with heart disease for the last three years.
Mr. Shaffer and his wife were honored by the Oak Ridge Grange Aug. 15, 1936, in a celebration of their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Shaffer was Matilda Burton of Lynnville before her marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer spent all of their married life in Jasper county and 25 years of that time in the Oak Ridge neighborhood.
Surviving relatives include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. L. W. Ingraham of Brooklyn, but formerly of Newton; a son, Bert L. Shaffer of Newton; four grandchildren, Charles Lincoln Ingraham, Mrs. E. J. Donahue, Mrs. Homer Wedekin and Mrs. Lewis Underwood, and six great grandchildren.
