Mrs. Nichols Dies Today
Mrs. Pearl Clements Nichols, who would have celebrated her 43rd birthday next Tuesday, died this morning about 1:50 o’clock at her home in Leeper’s addition. She had been in ill health for the past eight years but in a serious condition since August. A malignant disease caused her death.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Morgan Funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. D. A. Hastie, pastor of the Assembly of God church. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Native of County
Pearl Bowie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Bowie was born in Jasper county on June 11, 1897, and had spent most of her life in this county.
On July 14, 1914, she was united in marriage to Fred I. Clements and to this union were born five children. She was preceded in death by two children and by her husband on July 21, 1924.
Later she was united in marriage to I. O. Nichols in October 1936. Mr. Nichols, custodian of the Jasper court house, died April 29, 1937.
Mrs. Nichols was a member of the Assembly of God church.
Three children
Surviving are three children, Ruby Clements of Oskaloosa, Leona Ann Clements of Ottumwa and William Clements at home.
Brothers and sisters surviving are Jim Bowie of Hood River, Ore., Mrs. Mary Drake of Sully, Mart and George Bowie of Colfax and Mrs. Ida Goforth, Jasper, Robert, Theodore, Amos and Mrs. Ella Wilcox, all of Newton.
