Henry Runyan

Henry Thomas Runyan, son of Mrs. Lena C. Raitt of Colfax was born Feb. 1, 1907 and passed away June 6th, 1936 at Wilton Junction, Iowa, aged 29 years, 4 months and 6 days. [He was in an auto accident that killed a number of young men from the Colfax area.]

He was united in marriage June 30, 1926 to Edna Mullihan of Maxwell, Iowa and to this union were born five children, three boys and two girls, Robert, 9; Eugene 7; John, 3; Patricia Ann, 5 and Betty Jane, 1 year and 10 months.

Mr. Runyan graduated from the Farrar High School with the class of 1925. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant church at Farrar.

His entire life was spent on the farm until March 1, 1935, when he moved to Colfax and during the past year he has been employed at Moline, Ill. It was while returning to work there that he met his death in an auto wreck [five other people were also killed].

Mr. Runyan was preceded in death by his father, Lenar Runyan.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and five children, mother, Mrs. Lana C. Raitt; two brothers, Earl of Colfax and Carrol of Glenwood; two sisters, Mr. James Pickles and Mrs. Gladys Battles of Colfax; two half brothers, Guy of Marshalltown and Orley of Des Moines, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Ashton Chapel, with Rev. Logan of Newton officiating. Interment was in the Greencastle cemetery. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa, June 11, 1936.
