FUNERAL SERVICE FOR WM. C. GERHART-SAT.
Local Man Died at University Hospital in Iowa CityFuneral services for William C. Gerhart were held Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. Chas. J. Bukoutz, pastor of the Baptist church officiating.
Mr. Gerhart, a resident of Colfax and Mound Prairie township most of his life, died at the University hospital at Iowa City Wednesday from a heart ailment and complications.
William C. Gerhart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gerhart, was born October 26, 1883 at Muscatine, Iowa and passed away July 15, 1936 at the University Hospital in Iowa City, age 52 years, 8 months, and 19 days.
Mr. Gerhart was united in marriage to Fern Holdefer of Colfax, Oct. 9, 1906. To this union nine children were born, all of whom with the wife survive. They are: Mrs. Ben Larrison, Newton, Iowa; Francis Gerhart, Glenwood, Iowa; Mrs. Cornie Kleindorst, Newton, Iowa; Charles Gerhart, Moline, Ill.; and Gladys, Ruby, Betty, Stella, and Phyllis at home.
Mr. Gerhart spent his early life in the Bear Grove neighborhood in Mound Prairie township, moving with his family to Colfax a number of years ago. Since coming to Colfax he has been employed by the Rock Island railroad until last December when his health failed him.
For the past several months his health has weakened and seven weeks ago he was taken to Iowa City where specialists did everything possible for him but without avail and he died of heart trouble and complications Wednesday morning.
Besides his wife and children, Mr. Gerhart is survived by two brothers, Louis C. Gerhart of Newton and Fred Gerhart of Colfax and one sister, Mrs. Anna Baty of Colfax, three grandchildren and other relatives and close friends. His mother, father, one brother, and a grandchild preceded him in death.
Burial was made in the Metz cemetery.
